When?
February 16, 1947 was the date of the first service at Forest Hill Christian Church. Led by the Nichols family, Grand dad C.W. Nichols, Paul Nichols and Bill Nichols, the church met for the first time a one room building located at 1148 N. Mac Arthur that was formerly used as a Community Building. Draper Park Christian Church furnished communion plates and trays and $50 to help start our church. Paul Nichols said that the Forest Hill community got its name from the Fort Reno Forest Preserve.
9 Years Later (1956), after outgrowing the old Community Building, the church purchased an old Army barracks and moved, according to Paul Nichols, "across the street and north a little ways". Although being remodeled the old barracks still sits at 1148 N. Mac Arthur.
In 1966 the congregation built a spacious, modern brick building at the current location at 2121 N. Mac Arthur. Over the years the current building has been expanded, remodeled and a gymnasium added to accommodate growth. We have also purchased land to the south and some to the west over the last few years looking into the future for expansion.
Today We now meet in our newly completed building consisting of a beautiful new sanctuary which can hold 600+, new offices and 7 new classrooms.
Soon, the parking lot will be expanded and we will be building a new sanctuary that will hold 600 to 800. The current buildings will be updated to enhance the decor to compliment our new sanctuary.
Continually, we want to provide the community surrounding Forest Hill with a church that preaches God's Word, ministers to their needs and a place that is attractive to come and worship. |
